Nina Simone was a singer, pianist, songwriter and creative genius whose boundaries were not confined. My inspiration for this project was her constantly evolving hairdos, colorful attitude, and carefully crafted skills.

This years Design Week Portland Closing Party featured murals created by the students of Portland State University's Graphic Design Program. Each team was tasked with creating a mural that would invite the attendees of the party to interact and create their own additions to the murals.
As DWPDX brings in so many creatives, my teammate, Nate Corrado, and I wanted our mural to tell the story of teamwork in creating and collaborating with other people. We transformed our blank wall into a punny scene of some guys* just trying to get the work done.
When the closing party ensued, attendees added their own graffiti to our mural and some even went along to add more design puns like "Track", "CMD-P", and "Lead".

Whether it be digital or made from scraps of a magazine, collages can tell a story even if you're not trying to necessarily portray one. I find it interesting to use images I've taken with digital work: simple lines and shapes with bright colors and sometimes even the occasional archive.org finds to drop in.
